A new resort in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley channels the carefree spirit of summer camp, but with plenty of modern comforts for grown-ups and natural wine. The River Electric, a chic camp resort, swim club, and event venue, opens May 23rd, offering a contemporary take on classic outdoor adventures.

The resort was founded by wife and husband team Kelsey and Mike Sheofsky, who run Shelter Co, a luxury tent rentals and event production company.

“The Russian River area has always held a special place in our hearts both for the natural beauty and the amazing local community,” Kelsey Sheofsky told Travel + Leisure. “When we found the property that would become The River Electric, our main goal was to design a space for gathering in nature and creating a community-focused outdoor destination.”

Set on a 12-acre expanse near the town of Guerneville, The River Electric features 40 furnished tents surrounded by redwood trees. While the accommodations are designed to immerse guests in the surrounding natural world, each tent is outfitted with modern conveniences like electricity and WiFi. A central bathhouse features private and family-sized stalls stocked with custom-made, river-safe bath products by California-based brand Heliotrope.

Beyond the sleeping quarters, the resort offers two centrally-located swimming pools, open for guests, day pass holders, and memberships. Inspired by European beach club culture, The River Electric’s Swim Club offers a $32 day pass that comes with the use of a portable lawn chair, with chaise lounges and cabanas also available for rent.

Dining centers around the Pool Bar, where fresh California flavors meet poolside favorites—think local cod ceviche, vegan Caesar salad, and housemade potato chips with herb dip. On the dedicated kids’ menu, classic desserts such as soft serve and root beer floats add to the resort’s nostalgic vibes. And because it’s in the heart of wine country, The River Electric collaborated with Healdsburg-based Ruth Lewandowski Wines on custom blends for resort guests.

“Whether you’re here for a weekend under the redwoods, a pool day with friends, or a milestone celebration,” Sheofsky said, “it’s all about slowing down, chilling out, and soaking up some California sunshine.”

Nightly rates at The River Electric start from $325, and you can book your stay at theriverelectric.com.
