Charleston’s hotel scene just got a bit swankier.

The South Carolina city, which generated a tidy $14.03 billion in tourism last year according to the Charleston Regional Business Journal, just added a luxe new boutique property to its offerings. Opening today on the historic Upper King Street, the Nickel Hotel has 50 suites and rooms for your next stay in the Southern hot spot.

Nestled within Charleston’s Cannonborough neighborhood, the five-story hotel takes design cues from the city’s favorite Victorian-era motifs and gives them a modern twist. Ornate ironwork pops up in gates, passageways, homes, and churches around Charleston. The same is true of Nickel Hotel’s lush interior courtyard, where wrought iron touches, a wood-burning fireplace, and a tiered fountain are on display.

As for the accommodations (nightly rates starting from $460), both the suites and the rooms offer up a full kitchen with Bosch appliances and honed marble countertops, alongside expansive lounge and dining areas. Neutral hues with pops of green and fun tile decorate the rooms, as well as herringbone oak flooring and custom-designed king beds. You may even be able to snag a room with a private balcony overlooking that green courtyard.

The Nickel Hotel’s rooftop bar and lounge also serve up stellar views. Rosemary Rose, open to the public later this June, shows off 360-degree panorama of Charleston alongside its smattering of small plates and cocktails. For a more intimate experience, head to the guest-only cocktail lounge, Bar Daniel—named for the founder of the Cannonborough neighborhood, Daniel Cannon. Here, you can enjoy both coffee and cocktails while lounging on velvet seating. Method Co.’s design arm, Method Studios, teamed up with Morris Adjmi Architects on the interiors.

“We aspired to create a soulful hotel that feels like a spirited sanctuary—one that not only welcomes but also quietly transports,” Daniel Olsovsky, Method Co.’s creative director, told Robb Report via email.

A stay at the Nickel Hotel also grants you access to a gym close by, where you can swim in the 83-foot pool or play a game or two on the sports courts. The new accommodation also includes a library and an event space called the Parlour, which is home to yet another balcony that overlooks the courtyard and a stack of vinyl records.

This is the second property in the area from the minds at Method Co., who partnered with developer Capital Square on the Nickel Hotel. The Philadelphia-based hospitality brand unveiled the Pinch luxury boutique back in 2022.
