Did an Affordable TV Brand Just Make a Certified OLED Rival?

TCL is well known for its affordable 4K LED TVs. And while that remains the case, the brand has also made waves in the premium TV market with its line of mini-LED TVs, which it has been manufacturing since 2019.

This week, the brand introduced the QM8K, its new flagship series of mini-LED TVs, which is the successor to last year’s QM8 series and is poised to be its best-ever line of TVs to date.

If you’re looking for a gorgeous TV that delivers a near-OLED experience, TCL’s QM8K appears to be an excellent, affordable alternative.

A mini-LED upgrade

Like its predecessor, last year’s QM8 series, TCL’s QM8K series is a line of 4K LCD TVs with mini-LED backlighting. This helps them achieve a brighter image than traditional OLED displays, thereby delivering excellent picture quality even in rooms that are often brightly lit.

But one common complaint with mini-LED TVs is their off-axis viewing — if you don’t look at them straight on, their color and contrast (and therefore overall picture quality) don’t look as good. But TCL claims to have solved this problem with an entirely new panel featuring proprietary CrystGlow technology.
